System water-cooled VRV is in the heart of the energy efficiency of Crystal Tower, a landmark office building in Bucharest, Romania
Crystal Tower building in downtown Bucharest hosts the headquarters of the Romanian branch of ING Bank. The stunning building was designed by Romanian architect Adrian Spiresku resemble crystal protruding from the gray rocks, so typical of the Romanian capital. The effect is achieved by asymmetric profile of the building and glass facade “cut” from different angles. The helipad is also unique for Bucharest.
No less influential and innovative are many extras, which means that the building has acquired BREEAM design prize. Together with the use of natural light, the building boasts smart and innovative heating and ventilation, using two-layer glass facade to reduce energy consumption and create a perfect environment for the residents.
First double layer glass facade is used in Romania. Allows constant airflow between the two layers creates microclimate and protects the interior from extreme temperatures. Inside climate controlled air conditioning system, water-cooled VRV of Daikin – on the ground floor and 14 office floors. The restaurant is served by air conditioning system VRV air-cooled.
Customer SC Plaza Development srl explains the choice of VRV: “For starters, we decided that we need a modern and flexible solution for air conditioning. Flexible enough for air conditioning of single offices, general offices and conference rooms. Specifically wanted the system to be sustainable, low energy consumption and possibly with energy recovery. In short, we wanted an energy-efficient building and Daikin provided the optimal solution. “
Daikin VRV offers a complete solution for building air-conditioning. Suitable for a wide range of applications VRV can be applied to all conditions ranging from -20 ° C to 46 ° C (cooling) and -25 ° C to 46 ° C (heating mode) or even more when combined with technology thermal regeneration. VRV systems are often installed in offices, hotels, restaurants, bars, leisure centers, shops, public buildings, medical buildings and homes.
Inverter VRV systems offer high levels of efficiency because of the possibility of regulation of the refrigerant to meet needs of the building and outside temperature. So only the minimum required energy use, reducing operating costs and carbon dioxide emissions. Different areas of the building can be controlled individually, which further increases the efficiency.
Range VRV-W with water cooling is ideal for high-rise buildings as Crystal Tower, where the length of the pipes with air-cooled refrigerant is limited. Or suitable for buildings with too little space for outdoor units. The compact and lightweight units can be stacked, reducing the used space even more, and low noise levels. This makes them suitable for buildings with noise restrictions, such as city centers.
Along with high efficiency at partial load, typical of the technology VRV (Variable Refrigerant Volume – regulireuem volume of refrigerant), VRV-W used Variable Water Flow – adjustable anytime water flow as needed, so that saves more more energy. Additional bonus e, that the system in “free cooling” in spring and autumn to save 30-40% operating costs compared with similar systems type air-air.
Heat pump VRV-W can be used with a wide range of Daikin fan coil units or other companies, Air handling units, air curtains can be used to produce hot water.
VRV-W system in the building contains 70 outdoor units connected with 280 hidden ceiling fixtures and cartridges size 600×600. The system was designed by the consulting firm Tehnoclima and installed by AVI Compact. The same company installs both cooling towers and bodies VRV type air – air, connected with indoor units for restaurants.
Sky Air bodies provide comfort in the lobby of the restaurant, while the terrace 700 kW chiller care of cold water for air conditioning chambers throughout the building. Separately 150 kW chiller serve server rooms.
Air conditioning, security systems and other building services are managed by the Building Management System of the Crystal Tower. The system monitors everything to function effectively, thus creating perfect climatic conditions and at the same time using a minimum amount of resources.
The combination of innovative building cladding and use of VRV system dramatically increase the efficiency of its operation, and significantly reduce the annual energy consumption compared to similar buildings with a conventional design.
Customer SC Plaza Development srl explained his choice of VRV-W except with high COP and low energy-consumption and because “allows tenants control and monitoring of the individual indoor units and flexibility in case of future interior changes.” High initial costs are offset by lower operating ones, which means that the period for the investment is reduced to three years.
The building won the “Award of Bucharest Eco Architecture 2012″ and was declared a Green Project of the Year by the Council for eco buildings Romania. A shining example of how innovative building materials in combination with the latest state of the art in climate control allows the construction of high and sustainable buildings in urban environments without compromising design.
